Welcome

The Old Timers Hiking Club is for hikers who are young at heart no matter their age. Everyone is welcome to join in our frequent hikes in the beautiful Mountain Empire. We are based in Johnson City, Tennessee.

Scheduled Hikes
It is with heavy hearts of being away from our  hiking buddies that the hike leaders in this club have decided;  that as a responsible measure to contain the COVID-19 (corona) virus, all scheduled hikes and club activities are canceled until further notice. We look forward to this pandemic passing and hope to see you on the trail soon. Walking or hiking is so good for us, we hope each of you will find your own path to keep doing that until we can all hike as the Old -Timers Hiking Club again.------Faye Guinn and David Polon

CB died at 4:30 on Wednesday morning, January 29th. I am so sorry for his family and those of us left behind as we will miss him terribly, but glad for my very special friend, that he is no longer in pain and suffering. He will be cremated and they are planning a service (probably at Covenant Presbyterian) on February 29th. So CB is now on his way to a good long hike with no pain and only blue skies...Susan Peters
The Old-Timers Hiking Club

Twas the fall of 91, Almost thirty years ago
That CB, Jim and Don on a hike would go
And so, it was on a beautiful Wednesday morn
That the Old-Timers Hiking Club was born

Word would spread and the club would grow
Richard, Neil, Betty, Sam, Ed, Sandra, Mump, Bob, Malcolm, and Clyde
Are just a few of the early Old-Timer names we know
They found Unaka Mountain and a white-blazed trail called the AT
And decided that Appalachian Trail Maintainers they would be

Their hiking trails were the beautiful Mountains of East-Tennessee
And from those mountain tops, OH! what views they could see
Be it raining, be it snowing, be a cold wind over Roan a-blowing
If it was a Wednesday morn, a-hiking those Old-Timers would be going

Years have passed and the names of those who hike have changed
But the spirit and grit of those first Old-Timers remains
Be it raining, be it snowing, be a cold March wind a-blowing
Be it a Monday or a Wednesday a-hiking the Old -Timers will be going

We are The Old-Timers Hiking Club, don’t let the name fool you
We are the Old-Timer Hikers; Climbing Mountains is what we do

I am not a poet but this is my attempt to honor CB Willis who for many, many, years was the “glue” that
kept the Old -Timers Hiking Club going; so, that I and many others could find a wonderful “home” for
our hiking days. He is no longer with us on hikes but is still president and a cheer leader for the Club.
Thank -you Mr. Willis for forming the club and for all those years of keeping the club hiking.
Merry Christmas and Gods blessings from all of us who enjoy being Old -Timers. Faye
